Screen-Cleaning and Soybeans

Cleaning screens is the dirtiest job in the shop that nobody relishes. However, it is essential and needs to be done properly or it can cause more headaches than one could imagine.

Thankfully, while walking the floors of a trade show years ago, I was directed to a booth that changed the way we clean screens at our shop.

After a screen is used in production, the ink or plastisol must be removed from the screen. We use a cleaner that seemed very expensive and is made from soybeans.

After a trial run, and to my greatest surprise, this product worked brilliantly and is really cost effective. Other attributes are that it's environmentally friendly without harmful fumes, which makes it safe to be around and cleans up fast.

Furthermore, contact with the skin seems to be beneficial as I no longer have cracking and scaling on my hands. Once the screen is cleaned with soybean oil, it is washed off with plain water!

The next step is to reclaim the emulsion which will be discussed in our next installment.

Nice chatting with you!
